Match Report

Hi all, A brilliant result! Playing on a great pitch, thanks to Steve, which had just been marked and cut, looking brilliantly, the sun was out, we were set to get one back on Beckwithshaw who were lucky to beat us last weekend. We started with a different formation than what we were used to but from the off, most of the players were quite happy with it, although it meant a few players would have to work harder but we had plenty subs to cover for any tiredness. For the first 10 minutes it was all New Park, mainly dominating the game with Beckwithshaw only getting one or two chances to even get into our box, when they did it was swiftly cleared by the back 3, which was swapped about often, Drew, Seth, Ellis and Josh rotated around at the back but whichever three were playing at any one time were solid, Seth being strong to win every ball, Drew communicating with the players around him, Ellis collecting the ball deep and running it forward to start attacks right from the back, finally Josh R winning every ball that Beckwithshaw tried to play down the wing, not missing a single tackle. After a small attacking play between Amhra and Luke, playing it forward to Sean who then laid the ball off to JP, he shot from outside the box and rattled the upright. Amhra continued to be strong both defensively and attacking, playing great balls through for the strikers. Ash was again, like last week, told to man mark the Beckwithshaw playmaker, in which he did a fantastic job, Ash and Ebi swapped and changed throughout the game to keep fresh legs on the pitch, Ebi was also very strong in what he did, even knocking the Beckwithshaw player to the ground a few times, sometimes a little to aggressive, but did just the job that was asked. We looked like the game was ours when we eventually managed to go 1 up, a perfect ball played through to Josh D from Toby, who then went on to send a spiralling cross into the box, Sean was unmarked and won the head which deflected off a Beckwithshaw player and ended up in the net. The rest of the half was similar, the bulldogs had most of the possession, but failed to score, while every Beckwithshaw chance was easily won by the defence or ended with a brilliant save from Matt who showed great improvement, as he does every week, commanding his box, saving all shots then coming out to collect stray passes. Half time, New Park 1 - 0 Beckwithshaw At half time the players were feeling great, enjoying the new formation, very excited to get back into the game. Amhra, JP and Owen were all playing brilliant balls through to the strikers when finally one slipped through to put Josh D through on goal, unfortunately he lost his footing with the ball getting caught under his feet and was tackled. Shortly after the ball was played wide down the wing, whipped in once more to find Josh D in the middle who headed the ball home, 2-0. New Park looked very comfortable, slowed the pace of the game right down and controlled everything well, with 10 minutes to go, Owen collected the ball on the edge of the box, put the game to bed by slotting it down to the keepers left. A great game from the Bulldogs, with every player deserving a MOM award, however, two players stood out today, the first MOM went to Josh R, whenever he was on the pitch, whether it was at left back or right back he won every tackle he went in for, stood off the defenders as he was told to then timed every tackle to perfection, lots of improvement! The second MOM went to Matt, as said, he completely commanded his box, shouting to his defenders to tell them what he was doing, saving every shot that was hit at him. A brilliant result for us, proving we were unlucky not to win last week and showing we are capable of beating the top teams, every player played a great game. For the record - New Park 3 - 0 Beckwithshaw Sean 1 Goal, Josh D 1 Goal, Owen 1 Goal. The last game of the season will be played next Sunday, an away game to Wigton Moor, invites and KO times will be forwarded in due course. Ben.
